The ENDB specimen was chosen for this study as it is the easiest to sample process and test operate in pure mode III fracture tests. In comparison, the ANDB specimen is more challenging to handle. The ENDC specimen has a negative T-stress during pure mode III loading conditions, which increases its fracture toughness magnitude compared to that of the ENDB specimen.
Improvements:
- Use active voice to clarify who made the decision.
- Clarify why the ANDB specimen is difficult to handle.
- Connect the explanation of the negative T-stress in ENDC specimens to how it affects their fracture toughness compared to that of ENDB specimens.
