The Savonius turbine is a vertical axis turbine. Unlike horizontal axis turbines, vertical axis turbines can capture energy from various flow directions while being less sensitive to turbulence intensity. However, the power coefficient (Cp) of Savonius turbines is lower compared to horizontal axis wind turbines and Darrieus vertical axis wind turbines, which is a significant performance disadvantage. Researchers have conducted extensive numerical and experimental studies to enhance the performance of Savonius turbines, mainly focusing on modification of turbine structure, implementation of flow enhancement devices, and utilization of Savonius turbine arrays.
