There is a lack of literature providing guidance on the appropriate use of two-dimensional and three-dimensional numerical simulations. Understanding their differences and applicability is important for balancing computational speed and simulation accuracy. To address this gap, our study uses a model with two Savonius turbines to investigate differences between 2-D and 3-D simulations. We examine common parameters in array research, including tandem arrangements (related to wake interference), flow direction (associated with wake interference and local coupling), relative phase angle (indicative of coupling gain effect), and other relevant factors. Our objective is to identify discrepancies between the two methods and explore their respective applications.
